The first Apple iPod to hit the streets came at a time when listening to personal music was undergoing a major change. In the 80’s tape players known as Walkmans were the best way to take your tunes on the go. Fairly bulky devices, they had normal non-rechargeable batteries and big headsets with black foam covers. They are actually at the top end of the price banding so it isn’t the money aspect, yet everyone seems to want one – the answer is style. Right from the first generation iPod these tiny music players oozed style, a small device, the shape was new and funky and pleasing to the eye, but more than that Apple iPod offered choice in color and a generation of young people were sold.

Initially there were only a few colors, but that has been expanded and there is now almost guaranteed to be and Apple iPod in your favorite color. Not missing a trick the Apple iPod accessories market was also launched, with co-ordinate bright colors in various types of accessories from woolen socks to keep your Apple iPod warm, to speaker decks in a range of shapes and sizes to turn it into a stereo system.

From then on the appeal has just grown, with the release of many more Apple iPods, offering different key features, styles, shapes or colors. You can now play movies and videos, download TV shows, connect to the Internet, or just stick with a basic model that plays your best tunes wherever you are. The simple scroll wheel navigation makes it easy to use, and with the trimmings of the iTunes store, play lists and new music genius technologies Apple seem to have the iPod market well and truly conquered.
