Is Making a Homemade HDTV Antenna a Good Idea?

Of course you could always go out and just buy your HDTV antenna amplifier, but to save yourself some money, there is always the option of getting a homemade HDTV antenna. There are just a few steps that are going to be involved if you would like to create a homemade HDTV antenna here, and which you are going to need to learn more about.

You can build one of these antennas quite cheap, and then you will also be proud of yourself and are going to be able to tell your family and friends how you actually built a homemade HDTV antenna on your own.

So you want to make your own homemade HDTV antenna, well the first step for you to follow is going to be to get a piece of paneling. If you really want to save here, you can find a piece of recycled paneling so that you are just reusing an old piece, just make sure that it is in decent condition so that you can use it.

Now you want to wrap the board in aluminum foil, and if you are going to be using regular rolls of aluminum foil from the store, you will probably need about two. You want to use duct tape to keep the aluminum foil from falling off of the board, and the best idea is to use high temp duct tape so you know that even if the room is warm or cool, the tape is not going to start to peel and fall off.

The next step is to cut a piece of 2x4 wood to the proper length, and it really all depends on what size you want the antenna to be in the end. Make sure that you have all your measurements taken before getting started here, so that you can measure twice and cut once. The worst thing would be if you measured wrong the first time and ended up cutting your board to the wrong length, so you really want to be careful here and make sure that you are not making any mistakes.

Then you want to lay this board down and nail it in place, then for your homemade HDTV antenna you need to measure out where the bowties are going to go, then get some washers, and start hooking up the coat hangers which are what is going to get the reception.
