You might remember when the Xbox 360 was first introduced that it was at a fairly high price. You had to come out of your pocket for at least a few hundred dollars before you were able to buy even the cheapest model. As time went on the Xbox 360 price drop was spreading all across the world. But you might ask yourself why did the Xbox 360 price drop and why did it drop by so much?

Economics 101

Basically an Xbox 360 price drop or any price drop is driven by supply and demand. If the manufacturer has a lot of them on hand then they might begin to drop prices so that the game can be sold. On the other hand if they have a small supply then they might raise the prices of them due to consumers not being able to buy them from just anywhere. On the demand side, if consumers aren’t demanding a lot of them, then they might have an Xbox 360 price drop to increase the demand for them. Any manufacturer knows that the consumer is persuaded by price hence an Xbox 360 price drop might persuade a consumer to switch over to that product.

Also another reason for an Xbox 360 price drop is that competition has gotten a little bit better since the Xbox 360 was introduced to the world. You might have noticed that other video game systems have been hitting the shelves and consequently that has driven an Xbox 360 price drop. If a manufacturer comes out with a new game that is comparable to the Xbox 360 but the price is lower this might trigger and Xbox 360 price drop. Consumers normally compare this by conducting their own personal Xbox 360 price comparison. This normally includes comparing the Xbox 360 and its features to that of another video game console. Some things that are compared can be but aren’t limited to price, graphics, games, game prices, etc. All of these features contribute to the price of a console or in this case an Xbox 360 price drop.

Furthermore, another explanation could be that the retailer ordered too many Xbox 360 consoles and decided that in order to get them moved out of their storage they needed to have an Xbox 360 price drop. This can also be true if the retailer is trying to make room for other products. As you know the new systems that come out are sold pretty quickly just because they are new so an Xbox 360 price drop would still allow consumers to purchase a decent system even if the new one isn’t available.
